A New Heart From God

A New Heart From God

God Trying to Put the Heart of Jesus in Our Hearts
In the book of Exodus in the Bible, the Israelites were slaves in Egypt. Every day they worked the soil to make bricks; it was very hard. The most difficult thing was if a son were born, he had to be thrown into the Nile River. Many women were going crazy witnessing their sons being taken from them only to be thrown in the Nile River to drown. But later in the story, we can see that God loved the Israelites, so He delivered them out of Egypt. With God’s grace, the people escaped their painful slavery and headed for Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey. On the way to Canaan, God gave the people of Israel the law, the Ten Commandments. The Israelites who received the law tried to keep it well, but no one was able to keep all the law. Now God had to curse them.

I Will Put My Laws into Their Hearts
Therefore, God decided to make a new law. He said the new law would be written in the hearts of the Israelites. In other words, He would put the law that is in the heart of Jesus into their hearts to make their hearts like His. It is written in Hebrews chapter 10 verse 16, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them.” The heart of every person is filled with desires and full of the heart for themselves, but it was God’s will to throw away that heart and put in the heart of Jesus. A lot of people are suffering because of their sins and desires. And God gave Jesus’ heart to such people. When Jesus’ heart enters into us, we turn into new people like Him.

If God Justifies Me
When I was young, I suffered because I kept sinning even if I didn't want to. I struggled to escape from sin. Then one day, I was surprised. The Bible said that all my sins were washed away by the blood that Jesus shed on the cross and that we were made perfect forever (Hebrews 10:14). In my thoughts, I am surely a sinner, but the Word of God says my sins have been washed away. God said He would not remember my sins and iniquities any more. In my thoughts, I am a sinner, but in the Bible, I was made perfect forever by the blood of Jesus. That's right! Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, I became sanctified and perfected. Moreover, God said that He wouldn’t remember my sins anymore. I threw my thoughts away and believed the word of God. Before, I thought I was a sinner, but if God says I am righteous, then I am righteous.

Pastors From West Africa
This past January, about 40 pastors from West Africa came to Korea. Our mission’s pastors began teaching faith to them. I was also in charge of giving lectures during the morning sessions. After the training period of three months was over, due to the outbreak of the Covid-19, all the flights had been cancelled and they could not return home. So, they stayed in Korea to continue to receive training. I explained the Bible in detail to the West African pastors and told them about how Jesus’ blood on the cross washed away our sins and made our hearts as white as snow. All the pastors listening to the lecture looked like angels. At the end of the lecture I said, “If anyone among you wants to testify, please come out and do it,” and I was completely surprised because all of the pastors rushed out to speak first.

Just as I Did
Africans are very good at expressing their hearts. When Koreans talk about their hearts, they unknowingly hide the shameful or unfavorable parts and try to tell only the things that are safe to talk about. Unlike Koreans, the Africans talked about what was on their minds. They talked about what kind of sin they had fallen into in the past and expressed exactly what they felt when their heart became as white as snow after receiving the forgiveness of sin. I could see that their hearts were filled with the heart of Jesus. Just as I had done, the pastors from Africa abandoned their thoughts and accepted Jesus' words. I have no doubt that when they return to Africa, they will be servants of God who can change the hearts of the people around them.

Will Become a New Africa
In the depths of my heart, while listening to the stories from their mouths and looking into their eyes, a deep gratitude to God and a shameful heart overlapped within me. Trained pastors will now return to Africa where they have children and challenges. Now they dream of creating a new Africa. When the pandemic ends and the planes fly again, they will return to their country and Africa will take after their hearts and become a new Africa.
