Peter Living in the Name of Jesus
나 같은 사람이 무슨 예수님의 제자야?
베드로와 요한이 성전에 올라갔습니다. 거기에 앉아 있던 앉은뱅이가 베드로와 요한이 성전에 들어가려고 하는 것을 보고 구걸했습니다.
“선생님, 한 푼만 도와주세요.”
베드로와 요한에게는 돈이 없었 습니다. 순간, 베드로가 예수님을 생각했습니다.
베드로는 예수님이 “너희가 다 나를 버리리라.”고 하셨을 때, “내가 주와 함께 죽을지언정 주를 부인하지 않겠다.”고 큰소리를 쳤습니다. 그런데 예수님이 십자가에 달리기 위해 잡혀가실 때 사람들에게 세 번이나 예수님을 모른다고 부인했습니다.
그리고 예수님이 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으시고 부활하셨습니다. 베드로는 너무나 반가워서 예수님 앞에 나아가 예수님의 손을 잡고 무엇인가 이야기하고 싶었습니다. 하지만 예수님을 세 번이나 부인한 일이 생각나 아무 말도 하지 못했습니다.
‘나 같은 사람이 무슨 예수님의 제자야? 아니야. 나는 어부야.’
물고기를 잡으러 간 베드로
베드로는 자기는 예수님을 세 번이나 부인했으니 예수님의 제자가 될 자격이 없다고 판단했습니다. 그래 서 다른 제자들에게 “나는 물고기 를 잡으러 간다.”고 했습니다. 다 른 제자들도 베드로를 따라나섰습 니다.
그때 다른 제자들이 “베드로, 지 금 뭐라고 했어? 예수님이 우리 죄 를 위해 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으시고 삼일 만에 부활하셨는데, 우리가 예수님의 부활을 사람들에게 알려 야지. 지금 무슨 소리야? 안 돼! 우 리 함께 예수님이 부활하셨다고 증 거해야 해.” 이렇게 말해야 했습니다. 그런데 다른 제자들도 베드로 와 같은 마음으로 힘없이 고기 잡으 러 간 것이었습니다.
베드로를 찾아오신 예수님
그 밤에 베드로와 제자들은 물고기를 한 마리도 잡지 못했습니다. 새벽에 예수님이 바닷가에 오셔서 “고기가 있느냐?” 물으셨습니다. 제자들이 없다고 대답하자, 예수님이 그물을 배 오른편에 던지라고 하 셨습니다. 제자들이 그대로 하자 물고기가 너무 많이 잡혀서 그물을 들 수 없을 정도였습니다.
그때 베드로가 자신들에게 말씀하신 분이 예수님인 줄 알았습니 다. 그리고 3년 전 예수님을 처음 만났을 때가 생각났습니다. 예수님이 하신 “내가 너를 사람 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라.”는 말씀이 떠올랐 습니다. 베드로는 바다로 뛰어내려 헤엄을 쳐서 예수님께로 갔습니다.
예수님을 사랑하는 베드로
예수님이 계신 곳에 가니 따뜻한 숯불도 있고, 물과 구운 떡도 있었습 니다. 베드로는 예수님이 준비하신 물을 마시고 떡을 먹었습니다. 베드로는 자신은 예수님의 제자가 될 자격이 없다고 생각해서 고기를 잡으러 갈릴리 바다로 온 것이었습니다. 그런 자신을 예수님이 찾아와 바닷가에서 기다리셨고, 다시 만나주셨습니다. 예수님이 베드로에게 물으셨습니다.
“요한의 아들 시몬아, 네가 이 모든 사람들보다 나를 더 사랑하느냐?”
예수님이 하신 말씀이 베드로의 귀로 들어가서 베드로의 마음으로 들어갔습니다. 예수님의 말씀을 듣고 보니, 자기 마음 안에 예수님을 사랑하는 마음이 있는 것을 볼 수 있었습니다. 그때까지 사탄은 베드로 안에 있는 예수님을 사랑하는 마음을 ‘예수님을 세 번 부인했다’는 생각으로 다 덮어버렸습니다. 그래서 베드로가 예수님을 사랑하지 않는 사람이 되었는데, 예수님은 다시 베드로 마음에 있는 예수님을 사랑하는 마음을 드러내 주셨습니다.
‘아, 내가 예수님을 사랑하고 있구나. 그런데 사탄이 그 마음을 가려놨구나!’
이제 베드로는 예수님이 자기를 사랑하시고, 자신도 예수님을 사랑하고 있음을 알았습니다. 그러니까 자신이 예수님을 세 번 부인한 것이 문제가 되지 않았습니다.
“주여, 그러하외다. 내가 주를 사랑하는 줄 주께서 아시나이다.”
예수님이 베드로에게 말씀하셨습니다.
“내 어린 양을 먹이라.”
“예수님, 당신의 어린 양을 나 같은 인간에게 맡기십니까? 저는 그것도 모르고 복음을 전하지도 않고 고기나 잡으려고 했습니다. 예수님.”
이때부터 베드로의 마음에는 예수님이 항상 같이 계시고, 예수님이 그의 인도자가 되셨습니다.
예수님의 이름으로 살게 하시려고
베드로가 성전 미문에서 앉은뱅이 를 만났을 때 예수님을 생각했습니다.
‘나는 이제 베드로가 아니라 작은 예수구나. 나로서는 앉은뱅이를 일으킬 수 없지만 내 안에 예수님이 계시는데, 예수님은 앉은뱅이도 능히 고치시겠구나.’
이제 베드로는 몸만 베드로지 그 안에 예수님이 계셨습니다. 베드로는 예수님의 이름으로 앉은뱅이를 고쳤습니다. 그 뒤에 중풍병자도 고치고, 죽은 다비다도 살렸습니다.
우리도 베드로처럼 예수님이 우리 안에 계십니다. 예수님이 십자 가에서 흘리신 피로 우리 죄를 사하신 것을 믿고 우리 마음이 죄에서 벗어났습니다. 그래서 하나님은 우리도 예수님의 이름으로 살게 하셨습니다. 우리에게도 예수님의 능력을 나타내셔서, 우리도 베드로처럼 예수님을 세상에 나타나시게 하셨습니다.
How Could a Person Like Me Be a Disciple of Jesus?
Peter and John went up to the temple. A lame man sitting by the gate begged when he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple.
“Sir, please give me a penny.”
Peter and John had no money. At that moment, Peter remembered when Jesus said to him, “All ye shall be offended because of me this night.” Peter cried out, “Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee.” But when Jesus was taken to be crucified, Peter denied to people three times that he did not know Jesus.
Then Jesus was crucified, died on the cross, and He resurrected. Peter was so glad that he wanted to go to Jesus, hold His hands and say something. However, he could not say anything when he remembered the fact that he denied Jesus three times.
‘Is a person like me really a disciple of Jesus? No, I am not; I am only a fisherman.’
Peter Goes Fishing
Peter had decided he was not worthy of being a disciple of Jesus because he had denied Jesus three times. So, he told the other disciples, “I am going back to be a fisherman,” and the other disciples also followed him.
At that time, the other disciples should have said, “Peter, what are you saying? Jesus was crucified on the cross to die for our sin and was resurrected in three days, we must go and tell people about His resurrection. What are you talking about? No! Together, we must testify that Jesus has risen.” However, by having same heart as Peter, the other disciples also went fishing with him.
Jesus Visits Peter
That night Peter and the disciples could not catch any fish. However, at dawn Jesus came to the shore and asked, “Have ye any meat?” They answered ‘no’ and Jesus told them to cast the net on the right side of their boat. They listened to Him and caught so much fish they could not lift the net. Then, Peter realized the man who spoke to them was Jesus. He remembered the words Jesus had said when he first met Him three years earlier, “I will make you fishers of men.” So, he jumped into the sea and swam to shore where Jesus was.
Peter Loves JesusPeter went to where Jesus was and there was a warm fire of coals, water, and bread. Peter drank the water and ate the bread that Jesus prepared. He had come to the sea of Galilee to fish because he thought he was not worthy of being a disciple of Jesus. But Jesus came looking for him at the sea, waited for him, and met him again. Jesus asked Peter.
“Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?”
The words Jesus spoke went through Peter’s ears and into his heart. Listening to His words, he could see that he had the heart to love Jesus. Until then, Satan had covered up the heart of loving Jesus in Peter with the thought of ‘I denied Jesus three times.’ Therefore, Peter had become a person who did not love Jesus, but Jesus revealed the love of Him in Peter’s heart again.
‘Oh, I do love Jesus. But Satan covered that heart up!’
Now Peter realized that Jesus loved him, and that he also loved Jesus. So, Peter denying Jesus three times did not become a problem.
“Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.”
Jesus said to Peter.
“Feed my lambs.”
“Jesus, you entrust your lambs to a person like me? I never knew that, so I tried to go fishing instead of preaching the Gospel.”
From that time on, Jesus was always in Peter’s heart and became his guide.
To Live in the Name of Jesus
Peter thought of Jesus when he met the lame man sitting by the gate of the temple called ‘Beautiful’.
‘I am no longer Peter, but little Jesus. It can’t be done by me, but I have Jesus in me. Jesus will be able to heal even this lame man.’
Now physically it was Peter, but the heart that was within him was Jesus. Peter healed the lame man in the name of Jesus. After that, he healed the paralytic and revived Tabitha from the dead.
As with Peter, Jesus is also inside us. Believing that Jesus forgave our sins with His blood that was shed on the cross, our hearts become free from sin. That is why God wants us to live in the name of Jesus. He has manifested the power of Jesus to us so that we can reveal Jesus to the world just like Peter did.
