Those Who Abandoned Their Thoughts and Believed the Word

God’s Will To Bless All People
Not long after God created man, man fell into sin. From then on, God had a plan to send Jesus to deliver man from sin. In Genesis chapter 12 in the Bible, God chose Abraham. He said He would make a great nation through Abraham and he would be a blessing. The reason God chose Abraham is that everyone in the world can look at him and have a heart saying, ‘If you believe God, you are blessed. Let us believe God and receive that blessing.’ For that purpose, God chose Abraham and the Jews to receive His blessing.
However, the Jews crucified Jesus on the cross. After Jesus died, God also gave the Gentiles the opportunity to be saved. But the Jews who were saved still had their hearts closed toward the Gentiles because they did not know what God’s will was.

God Brought the Gospel to the Gentiles
One day, God wanted to preach the Gospel to Cornelius, the centurion of the Italian band. First, God showed Peter a vision of a vessel like a great sheet and in it were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and fowls of the air. Then, God spoke to Peter.
“Peter, kill, and eat.”
“I cannot, Lord. I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”
Then he heard a voice again.
“What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.”
This happened three times. Just then, the men sent by Cornelius came looking for Peter and he followed them to Cornelius’ house. Peter said to Cornelius.
“As a Jew, you know that it is illegal to associate with the Gentiles, but God has shown and instructed me to do it so I came to you without refusing. For what reason have you sent for me?”
Peter still could not open his heart to the Gentiles. Cornelius spoke.
“Four days ago as I was praying, a man stood before me in bright clothing and said, ‘call for Simon, whose surname is Peter’, so I sent people to look for you. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.”
God opened Peter’s heart to preach the gospel to the Gentiles and that day Cornelius and all those who were there received salvation.

The Sick Man Who Took the Word Greater Than His Thought
Once, Jesus went to the man who had an infirmity for 38 years and spoke to him. “Wilt thou be made whole?”
“Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.”
“Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”
The sick probably man thought, ‘This is nonsense. I have been trying so hard to get up and walk for so long… I can’t walk.’
This thought filled the sick man’s heart.
But the man abandoned his thought and tried to walk following the words of Jesus. Then, an amazing thing happened. Just like Jesus said, the sick man was able to get up out of his bed and walk. This man valued the words of Jesus more than his own thoughts, experiences, and circumstances.

We Must Abandon Our Thoughts and Believe the Word
As we experience many things and learn about life, we each develop our own standards and wisdom of life. We follow our own thoughts to live our own way based on those standards. There are so many people who think they live according to God’s will when, in fact, they are living according to their own will. When Jesus was on earth, the priests and lawyers thought they were following God’s will while living a life following their own will which was completely different from the will of God. Even in this era, people say they believe in God, but they believe their own thoughts much more than the Word of God. They trust their experiences and circumstances more than the God’s Word.
There are countless verses in the Bible saying that Jesus was crucified for us to be justified, but there are far more people who consider themselves sinners according to their own thoughts which are different from the Bible. Jesus paid the full price for our sins and delivered us from them. That is why in the Bible it is written that we are ‘justified’ by the grace of God. We must believe that Word.
Our thoughts are always different from God’s thoughts. Therefore, whoever abandons his thoughts can follow God’s will. All the people who believed God in the Bible let go of their experiences, circumstances, and thoughts to accept the Word of God.
