The Little Maid Who Changed Her Heart
그래서 하나님이 나를 포로로 잡혀오게 두셨구나
열왕기하 5장에는 아람 나라에서 나아만 장군의 아내에게 수종 들던 계집종이 나옵니다. 이스라엘과 아람 사이에 전쟁이 터졌을 때, 나아만 장군이 포로로 잡아온 아가씨였 습니다. 계집종은 고향이 그립고 가족이 얼마나 그리운지 말로 다 할 수 없었습니다. 더욱이 나아만이 문둥병에 걸려 있어서 계집종의 마음이 더욱 힘들었습니다.
‘나는 언제나 종살이에서 벗어날까? 아버지 어머니는 잘 계실까? 고향에 가서 가족들을 만날 수는 있을까? 이 집에서 지내다 나도 문둥 병에 걸리면 어쩌지?’
그러던 어느 날, 계집종이 생각을 했습니다.
‘우리 장군님이 사마리아에 계신 엘리사 선지자님에게 가면 문둥병이 나을 텐데….’
그러자 계집종은 자기를 어둠 속으로 몰고 간 생각에서 다른 쪽으로 마음을 돌이켰습니다.
‘그렇구나! 장군님이 사마리아에 계신 선지자님에게 가서 문둥병이 나으면 이 집에 근심이 없어지겠다. 장군님이 기뻐하겠다. 이스라엘과 아람 사이가 좋아지겠다. 그래서 하나님이 나를 포로로 잡혀오게 하 셨구나.’
사람의 마음이 변하는 것이 신기합니다. 계집종은 포로로 잡혀와 괴로운 시간을 보내고 있었습니다. 모든 것이 절망적이었습니다. 그런데 마음에서 다른 방문을 열자 모든 것이 달라졌습니다. 그때부터 계집 종에게 기쁨과 밝은 마음이 올라오기 시작했습니다.
계집종의 마음이 여주인에게
그것을 제일 먼저 느낀 것은 나아만의 아내였습니다.
“너, 요즘 얼굴이 많이 밝아진 것 같아. 좋은 일이라도 있니?”
“예, 사모님이 아시면 정말 깜짝 놀랄 일이에요.”
“무슨 일인데 그래?”
“장군님이 문둥병에 걸리셨잖아요. 그 병 나을 수 있어요.”
“뭐라고? 너, 쓸데없는 소리하지 마. 그동안 용하다는 의사를 다 만났지만 아무도 못 고쳤어.”
“사마리아에 계신 엘리사 선지자님은 달라요. 그분은 하나님의 사람이에요. 죽은 사람도 살리셨어요.”
“정말?”
신기하게도, 계집종의 이야기를 들으면 들을수록 나아만 장군 아내의 마음에서 ‘우리 장군님의 문둥병이 낫겠구나! 그래, 그렇게 하려고 하나님이 저 아이를 보내셨구나!’ 라는 마음이 올라왔습니다. 그 후로 나아만의 아내는 계집종을 가까이 대했고, 자주 같이 앉아서 이야기를 나누며 엘리사 선지자 이야기를 들었습니다.
계집종의 마음과 같아진 나아만 장군
하루는 나아만 장군이 집에 돌아와 저녁을 먹는데 아내가 입을 열었습니다.
“여보, 사마리아에 가면 엘리사라는 선지자가 있대요.”
“나도 그 이름을 여러 번 들었어. 사람들이 툭하면 엘리사 이야기를 해.”
“그분이 당신의 문둥병을 고칠 수 있대요.”
“뭐라고? 누가 그래?”
“이스라엘에서 잡혀 온 아이가요.”
“그래? 그 아이를 오라고 해.” 슬픔과 괴로움과 절망에 빠져 고향을 그리워하며 눈물 짓던 계집종의 마음이 변하면서 나아만의 아내에게 소망을 이야기했습니다. 나아만의 아내가 처음에는 말도 안 된다고 생각하다가 계집종이 한 이야기가 마음에 점점 자리를 잡았습니다. 그리고 나중에는 나아만의 마음으로 흘러들어갔습니다. 나아만도 마음이 변해 계집종과 같은 마음을 가졌습니다.
“내가 엘리사 선지자 이야기를 많이 들었는데, 사람들이 그분을 하나님의 종이라고 해. 그분 같으면 내 병을 고칠 수 있을지 몰라.”
“여보, 그렇게 되면 얼마나 좋겠어요!”
“그래, 왕께 이야기하고 엘리사 선지자에게 가야겠어.”
나아만 장군이 이스라엘로 가서 엘리사 선지자를 만났고, 중간에 어려움도 있었지만 결국 문둥병이 나아 돌아왔습니다. 아람의 군대장관 나아만도 하나님을 믿는 사람이 되었습니다.
절망 속에 있는 사람들이 밝게 변해가는 이야기
우리에게 닥치는 어려운 일들이 우리 마음을 슬픔과 괴로움 쪽으로 끌고 갑니다. 그때 하나님의 마음과 하나님의 말씀은 우리를 은혜 안으로, 복된 곳으로 이끌어 갑니다. 우 리 마음이 하나님의 말씀에 이끌리면 어떤 어려움이나 절망 속에 있던 사람이라도 먼저 믿음이 생기고, 마음에 평안이 찾아오며, 뒤따라 축복이 임합니다.
성경은 절망 속에 있는 사람들이 어떻게 밝게 변해가는지 이야기합니다. 성경을 읽는 사람의 마음은 절망 속에 머물러 있을 수 없습니다. 성경 말씀에 이끌리다 보면 하 나님의 마음을 알 수 있고, 하나님의 사랑을 알 수 있습니다. 그래서 하나님의 은혜를 입어 복을 받는 귀한 하나님의 사람이 됩니다.
That's Why God Brought Me into Captivity
In 2 Kings chapter 5 in the Bible, there is a little maid who served Naaman’s wife in Syria. She was a little girl who had been taken cap- tive by Captain Naaman when war broke out between Israel and Syria. The little maid missed her home- land and family dearly. It made her heart even more sad knowing that Naaman had leprosy.
‘When will I be free from this slavery? Are my parents well? Will I ever be able to go back home and see my family again? What if I also get leprosy living in this house?’
Then one day, the little maid had a thought, ‘If the captain went to meet the prophet Elisha in Samaria, he would be cured of leprosy…’
And this little maid turned her heart away from the thought that had driven her into darkness.
‘That’s right! If the captain goes to see the prophet in Samaria and gets his leprosy healed, there will be no worries in this house. The captain will be delighted. Then the relations between Israel and Syria will improve. That’s why God brought me into captivity.’
It is amazing how people’s hearts change. The little maid was taken captive and having a hard time. Everything seemed hopeless. But when she opened another door in her heart, everything changed. From that moment on, joy and a bright heart began to arise in the little maid.
The Little Maid’s Heart onto the Mistress
The first person to notice that change in the little maid was Naa- man’s wife.
“Your face seems a lot brighter these days. Did something good happen to you?”
“Yes, ma’am. I’m sure you will be really surprised when you find out, too.”
“Well, what is it?”
“I know how the captain can be cured of his leprosy; the prophet Elisha can do it!”
“What? Don’t talk nonsense. We’ve been to all the skillful and excellent doctors, but so far no one has been able to fix it.”
“The prophet Elisha in Samaria is different. He is a man of God. He even raised the dead.”
“Is that so?”
Amazingly, the more Naaman’s wife listened to the little maid’s words, the more she thought in her heart, ‘My husband’s leprosy can be healed! That’s right, God sent that child here to heal him!’ From then on, Naaman’s wife kept the little maid close and she often sat with her to talk and hear stories of the prophet Elisha.
Captain Naaman Whose Heart Became the Same as the Little Maid
One day, Naaman came back home and was having dinner when his wife started talking.
“Honey, there’s a prophet named Elisha in Samaria.”
“I’ve heard that name a few times. People often talk about Eli-
sha.”
“I heard he can heal your lep- rosy.”
“What? Who said that?”
“The child you brought from Is- rael.”
“Is that right? Call her in.”
As the little maid, who had been in tears, longing for her home, lost in sorrow, anguish and despair, had her heart changed, she talked about hope to Naaman’s wife. She thought it was nonsense at first, but the little maid’s stories gradu- ally settled in her heart and later it flowed into Naaman’s heart. In turn, Naaman’s heart also changed and became the same as the little maid’s heart.
“I have heard many stories about the prophet Elisha; people say he is a servant of God. I think he might be able to heal my illness.”
“Oh, honey, how wonderful that would be!”
“Yes, I should talk to the king and go meet the prophet Elisha.”
Captain Naaman went to Israel and met the prophet Elisha, and al- though there were difficulties along the way, eventually he was completely healed of his leprosy. Naa- man, captain of the host of the king of Syria, also became a believer in God.
How Those in Despair Change to be Bright
The difficulties that happen to us draw our hearts toward sorrow and anguish. At that time, God’s heart and His Words lead us into grace and into a blessed place. No matter what difficulties or despair we are in, when our hearts are guided by the Word of God, first, we will have faith, and our heart will be peaceful, then blessings will follow.
The Bible tells how those in despair change and become bright. The heart of a person who reads the Bible cannot remain in despair. When your heart is led by the words of the Bible, you can find God’s heart and know His love. Then we become God’s people who receive His grace and His blessings.
