Jesus, Who Healed the Paralytic
사람들이 예수님께 중풍병자를 데리고 왔을 때 예수님은 그 사람의 병을 얼른 고쳐주셨습니다. 그 예수님이 지금 우리에게 계십니다. 예수님께 나아가 어려움을 이야기하고 진지하게 기도하면 예수님은 그때와 동일하게 우리에게도 역사하십니다.
예수님을 찾아온 사람들
예수님이 배를 타고 가버나움에 가셨을 때, 많은 사람들이 예수님께 말씀을 들으려고 모였습니다. 하루는 사람들이 중풍병자를 데리고 예수님을 찾아왔습니다. 중풍병은 혼자서 걷거나 움직일 수 없는 병이었습니다. 그래서 사람들이 그를 침상에 누인 채로 데리고 왔습니다. 예수님은 그 사람들의 믿음을 보시고 말씀하셨습니다.
“소자야, 안심하라. 네 죄 사함을 받았느니라.”
그때 그곳에는 바리새인들과 교법사들과 서기관들이 있었습니다. 그들은 율법을 잘 지키려고 애를 쓰고, 사람들에게 율법을 가르치는 일을 하는 종교지도자들이었습니다. 그중 어떤 서기관들이 속으로 생각했습니다.
‘이 사람이 참람(분수에 넘쳐 너무 지나침)하도다. 자기가 하나님도 아닌데 어떻게 죄를 사해준다고 하지?’
중풍병을 고쳐주신 예수님
예수님은 그들이 생각하는 바를 아시고 말씀하셨습니다.
“너희가 어찌하여 마음에 악한 생각을 하느냐? ‘네 죄 사함을 받았느니라’ 하는 말과 ‘일어나 걸어가라’ 하는 말이 어느 것이 쉽겠느냐? 그러나 인자가 세상에서 죄를 사하는 권세가 있는 줄을 너희로 알게 하려 하노라.”
그리고 중풍병자에게 다시 말씀하셨습니다.
“일어나 네 침상을 가지고 집으로 가라!”
그러자 중풍병자가 일어나 걸어서 집으로 돌아갔습니다. 사람들은 그 모습을 보고 놀라기도 하고 두려워하기도 했습니다. 그리고 하나님께 영광을 돌렸습니다.
“이런 권세를 사람에게 주신 하나님께 영광을 돌립시다.”
예수님의 말씀을 받아들이면
우리가 무슨 일을 할 때 최선을 다해서 하려고 합니다. 그런데 우리 자신이 최선을 다하는 것의 결과와 예수님이 일해주시는 것의 결과는 차원이 다릅니다. 나는 학생 때 제대로 할 줄 아는 것이 없었습니다. 그런데 성경을 읽고 예수님의 말씀을 대하면서부터 달라지기 시작했습니다. 나는 성경을 읽고, 읽고, 읽고, 또 읽었습니다. 한 번 읽고, 두 번 읽고, 세 번 읽고, 열 번 읽고, 스무 번 읽었을 때 성경이 그냥 이야기가 아니라 살아서 역사하는 예수님의 말씀인 것을 알았습니다. 그때 나는 ‘그렇다면 이 말씀을 믿고 받아들이면 이 말씀이 내 안에 살아서 일을 하겠구나!’ 하는 마음이 들었습니다. 그때 다른 학생들과 마찬가지로 나는 아무것도 모르는 철없는 학생이었습니다. 그런데 예수님의 말씀이 내 마음에 임했을 때 평안이 임하고, 예수님의 역사를 보면서 내 삶이 달라지는 것을 느낄 수 있었습니다.
많은 사람들이 교회에 다니지만 형식적으로 예배를 드리고 헌금을 하고 기도하고 울면서 죄를 용서해 달라고 빕니다. 그러나 마음으로는 예수님이 가깝지 않고 멀어서 예수님이 하신 말씀이 마음에 작용하지 못하고 생각을 따라 사는 경우가 많습니다. 예수님의 말씀이 내 마음에 들어오자 말씀이 살아서 나에게 일을 하셨습니다. 단순히 예수님이 2천 년 전에 이 땅에 오신 하나님의 아들이 아니라, 내 삶 속에 동일하게 살아서 말씀과 똑같이 일하신다는 사실을 알았습니다. 정말 놀라웠습니다.
예수님과 이야기를 나눠보자
어린이 여러분도 중풍병자를 일으키신 예수님을 만나보십시오. 예수님과 이야기를 나눠보십시오. 예수님께 나아가 어려운 일을 이야기하고 도와달라고 해보십시오. ‘예수님, 저에게 이런 어려움이 있는데 도와주세요’ ‘예수님, 제가 친구들과 문제가 있는데 어떻게 하면 좋겠습니까?’ 하고 예수님께 묻고 예수님의 의견을 들어보십시오. 그리고 예수님이 여러분을 이끌어 가시는 것을 경험하기를 바랍니다.
처음에는 쉽지 않지만 한 번 두 번 예수님께 묻고 예수님의 뜻을 찾다 보면, 여러분이 작은 예수가 되어 예수님의 능력으로 살 수 있습니다. 그러면 세상에 그것보다 더 복된 삶이 없습니다.
예수님이 우리와 함께하신다
정말 감사한 것이, 중풍병자가 중한 병에 걸려 꼼짝도 할 수 없었지만 예수님을 만나자 벌떡 일어나 걸어갔습니다. 예수님이 고쳐주신 것입니다. 그 예수님이 지금도 우리와 함께 계십니다. 믿음을 가지고 예수님께 나아가면 예수님이 여러분에게도 일을 하기 시작하십니다. 처음에는 ‘나 같은 사람에게 예수님이 일하시겠나?’ 하는 마음이 들어서 예수님을 찾는 것이 쉽지 않습니다. 그런데 어려운 일을 한 번 두 번 겪다 보면 자신의 힘으로 안 되는 것이 느껴집니다. 그럴 때 ‘예수님께 한번 이야기를 해봐야겠다’ 하는 마음이 생깁니다. 그렇게 예수님께 진지하게 기도했을 때 예수님이 정말로 우리 기도를 들어주시는 것을 경험할 수 있습니다.
지금까지는 무슨 일을 만나면 여러분의 방법으로 해결하려고 애쓰거나 부모님을 의지했을 것입니다. 이제부터는 예수님께 나아가 어려움에 부딪쳐 보십시오. 예수님이 여러분에게 일하신다는 것을 믿으면, 삶이 밝아지고 거룩해지고 하나님의 축복으로 넘칠 것입니다.
People Seeking for Jesus
When Jesus went to Capernaum by boat, many people gathered to listen to His words. One day, some people brought a paralytic to Him. Paralysis was a disease where a person couldn’t walk or move on their own. So, they brought him lying on a bed. Jesus saw their faith and said to them.
“Son, worry not, thy sins be forgiven thee.”
At that time, Pharisees, teachers of the law, and scribes were there. They were religious leaders who tried hard to keep and teach the law to the people. Some of the scribes thought to themselves.
“This man is blaspheming
(disrespectful about God - trespassing God’s authority as a human). He is not even God, how can He forgive sins?”
Jesus Who Healed the Paralytic
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them.
“Why do you have evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”
Then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, and take up your bed, and go into your house.”
The man rose up and walked to his own house. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God.
“Glory to God who had given such authority to man.”
When We Accept the Words of Jesus
We work hard to do our best in whatever we do. However, the results of our best efforts and what Jesus does are on different levels. When I was a student, I didn’t know how to do anything properly. However, as I started reading the Bible and contemplating the words of Jesus, I began to change. I read the Bible, over and over again. As I read it once, twice, ten times, twenty times and so on, I realized that the Bible wasn’t just a story, but the living words of Jesus, working miracles. At that moment, I thought, ‘If I believe and accept these words, they will live and work within me.’ Like other students, I was just a naive student who didn’t know anything. But when the words of Jesus touched my heart, I had peace, and I could feel my life changing as
I witnessed the work of Jesus.
Many people attend church, they worship, give offerings, pray, and ask for forgiveness out of formality. However, in their hearts, they feel distant from Jesus. So His words can’t resonate with them, and they often believe and trust in their own thoughts more. But when the words of Jesus entered my heart, they came alive and began to work in me. I realized that Jesus wasn’t just the Son of God who came to this earth two thousand years ago, but He also lives within me, working according to His words. It was truly amazing.
Let’s Talk with Jesus
Children, I want you to meet Jesus who healed the paralyzed man. Have a conversation with Him. Go out to Jesus and share your difficulties, ask for His help. ‘Jesus, I’m facing such and such difficulty, please help me.’ or ‘Jesus, I’m having problems with my friends. What should I do?’ Ask Jesus and listen to His opinion. I hope you will experience how Jesus guides you.
At first, it may not be easy, but as you ask Jesus and seek His will once and twice, you can become a little Jesus and live with His power. Then, you will be living the most blessed life in the world.
Jesus is with Us
What’s truly amazing is that the paralyzed man, suffering from a severe illness and unable to move, immediately stood up and walked when he met Jesus. It was Jesus who healed him, and that same Jesus is still with us today. When you go out to Jesus with faith, He begins to work in you, too. At first, it may not be easy to seek Him, thinking, ‘Would Jesus really work through someone like me?’ But as you face difficult situations once or twice, you will realize that some things are beyond your own strength. That’s when the thought of talking to Jesus, and asking for His help arises in your heart. When you earnestly pray to Jesus, you can experience Him truly listening to your prayers.
Until now, whenever you faced a problem, you probably tried to solve it your way or relied on your parents. But from now on, try taking it to Jesus when facing those difficulties. If you believe that Jesus works in you, your life will brighten, become holy, and overflow with God’s blessings.
