Jesus Came Into The Temple
예수님이 안 계신 성전
이스라엘의 큰 명절인 유월절을 앞두고 있을 때였습니다. 하루는 예수님께서 예루살렘 성전에 올라가셨습니다. 성전 안에서 사람들이 소와 양과 비둘기를 데려다 팔고 있
었습니다. 한쪽에는 돈을 바꿔주는 사람들도 앉아 있었습니다. 성전에서 제사를 드려야 하는데 멀리에서 오는 사람은 제물로 쓸 소나 양을 끌고 오기 힘들기 때문이었습니다.
또, 성전세로 낼 돈을 바꿔주는 환전상이 있었던 것입니다.
예수님은 그 모습을 보시고 노끈으로 채찍을 만들어 소와 양을 성전에서 내쫓으셨습니다. 돈 바꾸는 사람들의 돈을 쏟고 상을 엎으셨습니다. 비둘기 파는 사람들도 내쫓으시고 말씀하셨습니다.
“내 아버지의 집을 장사하는 집으로 만들지 말라.”
예수님을 모시기 전의 내 마음
예루살렘 성전은 하나님이 거하시는 곳입니다. 그런데 예수님이 가시기 전에 성전은 장사하는 사람들의 고함소리와 짐승들의 울음소리로 시끄러웠습니다. 짐승의 똥 때문에 지저분하고 고약한 냄새가 났습니다. 하나님의 집이지만 엉망이 된 성전이었습니다. 성전이라고 할 수도 없었습니다. 그때 예수님이 성전을 깨끗하게 하시는 일을 하신 것입니다.
이 성전은 우리 마음을 말합니다. 만일 우리 마음에 예수님이 안 계신다면 우리는 죄와 더러운 생각으로 가득한 마음으로 살아갈 것입니다. 온갖 악한 생각이 우리 마음을 들락날락하면서 우리 삶을 죄악된 모습으로 이끌어갈 것입니다.
1962년에 내가 구원받기 전에는 죄를 많이 지었습니다. 배가 고파서 남의 밭에서 밀이나 참외를 훔쳐 먹기도 하고 친구들에게 듣기 좋은 거짓말도 많이 했습니다. 그래서 나는 죽으면 지옥에 갈 것을 확실히 알았습니다. 그런데도 죄를 짓는 것을 멈추지 못했습니다. ‘오늘도 밤에 친구들을 만나면 남의 집에 과일을 훔쳐 먹으러 갈 게 뻔해. 이제 절대로 나가지 말아야지’ 하고 결심하지만 소용이 없었습니다.
예수님을 마음에 모신 뒤
그런데 구원을 받고 예수님이 내 마음에 오신 뒤로 내가 변했습니다. 내 마음에 가득했던 욕심이나 욕망이 없어지고 예수님이 기뻐하시는 것이 무엇인지 생각하게 되었습니
다. 그러자 삶이 달라졌습니다. 전에는 죄를 좋아하고 세상적인 얘기하는 것을 좋아했는데, 구원을 받고 나니까 성경에서 읽은 이야기밖에는 다른 할 이야기가 없었습니다.
성경을 한 번 읽고 두 번 읽고 스무 번 읽는 동안에 성경 말씀이 내 마음 안에서 살아 있고 예수님이 나를 힘 있게 이끌어주셨습니다. 내가 삶을 바꾸려고 노력한 게 아니라,
예수님이 내 마음에 있는 악한 생각들을 내쫓아주셔서 삶이 달라지기 시작한 것이었습니다.
우리 마음도 예수님의 성전
여러분의 마음도 성전입니다. 예수님이 마음에 없는 사람은 죄의 욕망, 자랑, 근심과 같은 어두운 생각이 복잡하게 자리 잡고 있습니다. 그러나 여러분 마음 안에 예수님이
계시면 예수님이 악하고 더러운 생각을 다 내쫓아주십니다. 예루살렘 성전에서 소와 양과 돈 바꾸는 사람들을 내쫓아주셨듯이 예수님이 여러분 마음을 깨끗하게 해주십니다.
예수님이 마음에 계시면 얼굴이 못 생겨도 문제가 안 되고 머리가 나빠서 1과 3을 구분 못해도 문제가 안 됩니다. 예수님이 여러분을 대신해서 모든 것을 해주시고 필요한 것을 채워주시기 때문입니다.
예수님 안에 있는 새로운 피조물
혹시나 친한 친구와 다퉈서 감정이 상할 수 있고, 멀어지거나 헤어질 수도 있습니다. 그런데 나는 내가 성격이 좋은 사람도 아니고 착한 사람도 아닌데 구원받은 뒤부터 지금
까지 예수님과의 좋은 관계가 끊어지지 않았습니다. 그것은 내 마음에 계신 예수님 덕분입니다. 예수님이 내 안에 계시는 동안 나를 깨끗하고 거룩하게 살 수 있게 해주셨습니다. 나는 못되고 악한 사람인데, 예수님이 악한 것을 못 견디시니까 내 마음속에서 악한 생각들을 다 쫓아주셨습니다.
그래서 성경은 “누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라. 이전 것은 지나갔으니 보라, 새 것이 되었도다.” (고린도후서 5:17)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 여러분이 착하게 살려고 애쓰지 마십시 오. 거룩해지려고 애쓰거나 의로워지려고 하지 마십시오. 예수님
의 피로 죄 사함을 받고 마음에 예수님을 모시면 예수님이 여러분의 어떤 문제도 다 해결해주시고 하늘 나라 가기에 아무 부족함이 없게 해주십니다. 우리 마음을 하나님이 거하시기에 불편함이 전혀 없는 하나님의 아들, 딸로 키우십니다.
영원히 함께하시는 예수님
예수님이 오시기 전까지는 성전 안에 장사하는 사람들의 왁자지껄 시끄러운 소리와 소와 양의 울음소리가 가득했지만, 예수님이 오시고 난 뒤로 조용하고 깨끗한 성전이 되었습니다. 여러분이 죄 사함을 받고 예수님을 마음에 모시면, 예수님은 영원히 여러분을 떠나지 않고 함께하시면서 더럽고 악한 마음을 제해주시고 여러분의 부족함과 문제를 다 해결해주십니다. 그 예수님을 바라보길 바랍니다.
The Temple Without Jesus
One day, before the major festival in Israel called Passover, Jesus went up to the temple in Jerusalem. Inside the temple, people were selling oxen, sheep, and doves. In one area, there were also money changers sitting there. The reason for this was because those who came from far away to worship at the temple found it difficult to bring their own oxen or sheep to be used as offerings. Also, a money changer was there to change the money for people to pay the temple tax.
When Jesus saw this, He made a whip out of cords and drove the oxen and sheep out of the temple. He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned
their tables. He also drove out the dove sellers and said to them,
“Make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.”
My Heart Before Accepting Jesus
The temple in Jerusalem was a place for God to dwell. However, before Jesus came, the temple was noisy with the shouts of merchants and the cry of animals. It was dirty with the foul smell of the animals’ waste. It was the house of God, but it had become a messy temple. Actually, it could not even be called a temple. That is when Jesus did the work of cleaning the temple out.
This temple is a picture of our heart. If we do not have Jesus in our hearts, we will live with our hearts full of sin and filthy thoughts. All sorts of evil thoughts will come in and out of our minds, leading us to live a sinful life.
Before I was saved in 1962, I had committed a lot of sins. I was hungry, so I stole wheat or melons from other people’s fields and ate them, and I told many white lies
that sounded nice to my friends. So, I knew for sure I would go to hell if I died. Still, I could not stop committing sins. ‘If I meet my friends tonight, I’m sure we’ll steal fruit from someone’s field again. From now on, I will never meet up with them ever.’I made up my mind like this, but it was useless.
After Accepting Jesus in My Heart
After I was saved and Jesus came into my heart, I changed. The greed and desire that filled my heart disappeared and I began to think about what makes Jesus happy. Then my life changed. I used to like committing sin and talking about worldly things, but after receiving salvation, there was nothing else I wanted to talk about other than what I read in the Bible. After reading the Bible once, twice, twenty times and more, the words of the Bible were alive in my heart and Jesus was powerfully leading me. It was not that I was trying to change my life, but it was Jesus driving out the evil thoughts in my heart that changed my life.
Our Hearts are The Temple of Jesus
Your heart is also a temple. Those who do not have Jesus in their hearts have dark thoughts such as sinful desires, boasting, worries and so on, planted in their hearts.
However, if Jesus is in your heart, He will drive out all evil and filthy thoughts. Just as He drove out the oxen, the sheep and the money changers and cleansed the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus cleans your hearts. If Jesus is in your heart, it does not matter if we are not good looking or if we are not smart and cannot tell 1 from 3. This is
because Jesus will do everything for you and fill all your needs.
New Creation in Jesus
We may have an argument with a close friend and hurt each other’s’ feelings, become distant or no longer be friends with them. I am neither a person of good character nor a good person, but from the time I was saved until now, my good relationship with Jesus has not been cut off. This is solely because of Jesus in my heart. While within me, He leads me to live a clean and holy life. I am a mean and an evil person, but because Jesus could not stand evil, He drove all evil thoughts out of my heart.
In the Bible it says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians5:17) You should not try to live a good life. Do not try hard to be holy or righteous. If you receive the forgiveness of sins through the blood of Jesus and accept Him in your heart, He will not only solve all of your problems but also make sure you do not lack anything to enter the kingdom of heaven. He will raise you to be the sons and daughters of God and He won’t have any discomfort dwelling in your hearts.
Jesus Forever with Us
Before Jesus came, the temple was filled with the loud noises of merchants and the bleating of oxen and sheep, but after Jesus came, the temple became quiet and clean. If you receive forgiveness of your sins and accept Jesus in your heart,
He will forever stay with you, remove your filthy and evil heart, and solve all your shortcomings and problems. I hope you would all look at and rely on Jesus.
